Joe served the United States in the U.S. Navy followed by a lengthy career with NASA as a “tracker” for experimental aircraft including the X-15 and high altitude spy planes… which he chucked saying they were “hard to find”.  While Joe was supporting the X-15 program from the ground, he met Neil Armstrong who at the time was an experiment jet pilot… later the first man on the Moon.  He enjoyed his flight above the Washoe Valley, and is proud a photograph with Armstrong hanging on the wall at his home, “The Lodge” in Carson City, Nevada.
